Lagos

Lagos is a coastal city that has some great stories to back up its history. It is a simple laid back city that once has had a notorious reputation. This was all thanks to its pirates and sailors that ruled the areas surrounding Lagos.  Today Lagos continues to remain one of the main markets where all the fish is brought in. Yatches from across the globe find its halt in the ports of Lagos.

The Portuguese are most popularly known for their discoveries. In the 15 – 16th century, Henry the Navigator set off from the port of Lagos to go on to discover the coast of Africa. Another such navigator, Gil Eanes gained fame for rebutting the theory that the sea post Cape Bojador is monster laden.

Some of the major tourist attractions in Lagos is the Ponta da Bandeira Fort, which was known for protecting the city from invaders and looters in the earlier centuries. The Governors castle is yet another well-known tourist spot that attracts visitors to the city of Lagos. One of the most notorious things Lagos was famous for, was the slave market. It was the first slave market in Europe and the arena is now converted into a cultural centre.
