Nautical Tourism and Surfing

When the sea calls… you answer.

The Portuguese Atlantic coast is a paradise for anyone who loves to be near the ocean. With calm waters for quiet sailing or rough waters ensuring higher levels of adrenaline, Portugal’s coastline is an excellent place for all water sports.

Surfing in Portugal is renowned throughout Europe. Some of the largest waves to have ever been surfed have crashed ashore at Nazaré on the Central Portuguese coast.

Supertubos on the south side of Peniche is the original surf destination in Portugal but its Nazaré and Ericeira (a World Surfing Reserve) that attract experienced local surfers and travelling pros. Both locations host international competitions.

The more protected west coast of the Algarve offers less of a challenge for those who are beginners.

Excursions such as dolphin and whale watching are a great family-friendly activity. Whether you’re surfing the waves or lazily floating, the beautiful landscape with its towering cliffs, sand dunes and beaches will make you feel at peace.
